Hopefully the Labor Day holiday treated you great. I was glad to see the Seminoles win their victory in their first pre season game (I've been a huge fan of Florida State college football for as long as I can remember) GO NOLES! :)
Just to catch up since last week I ended up going back to enroll in that O-Chem class another time and again I was told the class is full and it is at Fire Marshall capacity lol I thought that was funny (sometimes you have to laugh and make light of a situation when you really want to get mad or throw a pity party). So instead of having two science courses this semester I will be taking one. However my schedule is certainly not a light load in place of O-Chem and its academic demands, so I picked up...
1. Biology II
3. 19th Century Modern Philosophy
4. Cities in Society
The last two classes are classes to fulfill the requirements of my major. Even my major in itself is still a mystery to me that I'm slowly starting to discern and understand its place in my academic career. Primarily because when I started college initially I was a Biology major and most pre-professional health students follow a science major track. However along the way I have had to alter some of my plans and re-asses my approach to dental school and the International Affairs major was not even remotely in my choices of a major. Nevertheless I'm sure in the end it will all unfold as to why this was the major God directed me in choosing and I actually enjoy the major so that is a plus!
A few semesters ago I was determined to get a good hold on my classes and actually OWN my classes rather than allowing time and procrastination to own me. I had to learn that if I wanted to really get an UNDERSTANDING of this material I was learning that I would have to seriously invest time or what little time I do have into my classes wholeheartedly. It's easy to say I'm focused, I'm determined, or I'm going to make straight A's but until you actually get tired of mediocre results and write out a weekly plan or an approach to success in your classes then you will continue to just say what you are rather than actually becoming focused and seeing the fruit of your labor.
It is ok and it is very practical to plan out your agenda, in fact you will need to have a steady plan especially if you are a parent! I used to think (foolishly) that I was creating a chore list for myself by planning out the hours of my day and I felt like I didn't need this because I can remember what it is I needed to do. I was wrong because this simple tool is something I had to learn how to use and I have to plan out my day by the hour allowing enough time for myself to complete the tasks I MUST complete in the course of the day. Yes, I even have a set schedule for dinner, bed time, play time and bath time. No two days are usually the same but they follow the same general timeline of events. Studying has its own time block as well I usually try to devote an hour to each class of the day in which I re-evaluate the lecture and course material that was covered during class. By doing this every day you become more familiar with the material and instead of cramming the material before tests or quizzes you are allowing your self to become familiar with the information you are learning and you in turn become more confident in your abilities to get the A. For all the students reading this blog that have not yet got a grasp on managing your time effectively, LEARN FROM MY MISTAKES. If you map out your day and already expect what is to come ahead of you then you're not in a rush all the time and you don't feel overwhelmed or behind.
P.S. -I used to struggle with procrastination in my prayer life as well. I would "forget" to pray. Now I even plan a time for prayer and my meeting with God everyday. He and I meet usually early in the mornings or at night before bed and let me tell you as a believer this is the most important time slot of my day. I prayed about my struggle with procrastination and He gave me a rational approach to overcoming it. I am still a work in progress but boy oh boy by His grace I have come a long way, a real long way lol.
