Classes started back yesterday and before I wake my son up to get dressed for daycare (who already at his young age is not a morning person lol) I TRY to spend 20 or 30 minutes in prayer and listening to the voice within myself to hear my divine instructions on how to get through the challenges that may arise in my day. I'm still working on making it a daily habit but for the most part I attempt to do this every morning or at least at night before I go to sleep. On this particular morning I heard, "Be still and know that I am God, I will be honored by every nation, I will be honored throughout the world. The LORD of hosts is with us; He is our stronghold" Psalms 46:10-11.
So I arrived at campus early because I was on a mission. My mission was to get enrolled in an Organic Chemistry I science class that I am required to take. I have to sometimes enroll in the science classes (mainly the chemistry courses) during Add/Drop week of school because my declared major is not a science major and the science majors have first pick during registration which is fair, and it only makes sense. I was scrambling around one of the busier parking garages driving from the first level up to the fourth in hopes to find someone pulling out or an available parking space. Already at 8:30am all of the parking spaces were already taken and no vacancies in sight.
After the class was over a couple of my friends (who also are non-science majors) and myself rushed over to stand in a line for about 45 mins along with many other students who were all waiting and hoping to get a seat in the SAME class. We made it about a third of the way through the line only to hear one of the professors announce out loud that there weren't any more seats available and we were told to check back later in the week for some possible openings in the class or try again in the upcoming. spring. semester.
Wait?! Whaaaaat? How could this happen? We all were early birds up early to get the worm and following the normal protocol of showing up and enrolling in person. There were still so many students needing this class just standing in line waiting and waiting... My heart dropped for a second because to take this class in the spring would obviously further delay the progress I had already made and that I am continuing to make towards my goal. I wrote out my vision and I have my courses mapped out up until the semester of graduation I plan to apply to dental school in the upcoming year and taking this class will push the application back about 6 months and will delay my entry into dental school by at least a year. But then I remembered the words I heard earlier in the morning, "Be still and know that I am God..."
The week is still not yet over and I'm still hopeful that I will be able to enroll in the course by the end of the week. There have been many adverse situations to occur in my life and in my college career in general. Adversity can feel like a kick in the teeth and a punch in the gut sometimes especially when you feel like you're doing everything the "right way". The simplest lesson to sum it all up is adversity comes to build our character of resiliency once we have gained a level of perspective concerning the difficulty at hand. Difficulties arise in our lives to develop a level of compassion for others, push us closer to grace, and to simply put it Trust God. People will fail you but God always delivers I know everything is going to work out just the way it is supposed to!
Recognize adversity for what it is and don't focus on the problem. Things can always be worse. Your future is greater than the issue at hand, you keep doing you and God will do the rest! Chat with y'all soon!
